We serve a creative God! He has blessed us with many talents and abilities. Some have very obvious applications in everyday life. Others may seem like more of a hobby than something that could bless others. Do you love to write but don’t see use in your job or during your daily routine?
Serve God With Your Writing Skills
Here are a few ways that you may be able to put your skills to use.
1. Serve God By Writing A Note Of Encouragement
No form of writing is too small to make an impact. Words of affirmation can hold so much weight in a person’s life. Having them written for them to cherish long after the memories of a conversation fade will have an impact for a lifetime. Encouraging friends and family is a great place to start!
In the age of texts and emails, receiving a card or letter (especially in the mail!!) has become just as precious as in the days of the pony express. Pastors and leaders are in need of written encouragement. In a position of great vulnerability and scrutiny, a simple written note could be the salve their soul needs. Serve God by writing notes of encouragement to help build the church!
2. Serve God By Writing A Devotional
Write a devotional. Studying the Bible can be intimidating. Having a guide can make it more approachable. Devotionals can be written from experiences of hardship or victory.
Some people are looking for a deep dive into the Greek and Hebrew root words and historical context. There are many different avenues to explore the Bible. Writing devotionals to point towards Christ our Savior is a skill that helps others start reading the Bible in bite size pieces.

Do you enjoy research? Do you thrive on information? Can you put words to a topic in a persuasive way? Writing a Christian research article can be a fantastic way to use your passions and talents to serve God.
At Christ Link, we provide access to several different Christian organizations that are making a huge impact locally and throughout the world. One of our nonprofits needs informational articles on the topic of Leprosy in India. Another needs assistance in articles written about missions and material assistance. Yet another needs content about abortion related topics written in a way that does not alienate an abortion minded woman.
5. Serve God By Writing Praise & Worship Music
Write a song. Psalm 40:3 says, “He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in Him.” Take your testimony and put it to music. Think about an area where you’ve seen victory and express it through lyrics. Not musical? Collaborate! Write down your ideas and share them with someone who has an ear for melodies.
6. Write A Book For God
Write a book. The possibilities are endless. Are you a reader? What do you enjoy? Pursue the genre that interests you most. There is a lot of opportunity in the world of fiction. Use your creativity to highlight the Creator.
7. Help Write Newsletters For Ministries & Missionaries
Write update letters or emails for ministries or missionaries. Ministries and missionaries rely on support. But, they are often putting their nose to the grindstone day in and day out using the support they receive. Updates and recaps can fall by the wayside.
Coming alongside a high-impact ministry and taking that task off of their shoulders could be an answer to prayer! Writing about all that they have accomplished and informing their supporters builds relationships and spreads the good news of the Kingdom.

This list is by no means exhaustive. When serving God, there is no limit to the opportunities he provides to a willing heart. Take some time today to write a note of encouragement.
Set aside time each week to choose an area of writing to pursue. Prioritize it – put it on your calendar! Time spent writing is not wasted time. Your words could be exactly what God wants someone to hear.
